Emergency Tokyo Keiki TG-8000 Gyro Overhaul at Fujairah Anchorage
Reported Fault: Master reported rapid heading precession (heading jumping 25 degrees) with “System Error 01” alarm sounding.
Diagnosis: Supporting liquid deterioration and worn gyrosphere lower pivot bearing causing rotor tilt and gimbal lock.
Work Performed: Engineer boarded with overhaul kit. Cleaned master compass container, replaced gyrosphere, renewed supporting fluid and packing gaskets, calibrated horizontal and vertical optical pickups.
Testing & Verification: Conducted 4-hour settling test; settle point stabilized within 0.1 degree of true geographic meridian. Synced all bridge repeaters and ECDIS inputs.
Result: Master confirmed perfect heading stability; voyage clearance granted.
