SEANAV MARINE

Certified Marine Radar Engineering, Diagnostics & Regulatory Compliance in UAE

Navigation and radio safety compliance is non-negotiable for commercial vessels navigating the busy sealanes of the United Arab Emirates. Whether your ship is berthing in Dubai, Fujairah, Jebel Ali, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, or Ras Al Khaimah, equipment breakdowns can lead to immediate Port State Control (PSC) detention, insurance invalidation, or sailing delays. Seanav Marine maintains dedicated marine electronics workshops and mobile technical teams to troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, and reprogram Marine Radar systems around the clock.

Our engineers are equipped with calibrated RF spectrum analyzers, NMEA protocol sniffers, signal generators, beacon test receivers, and genuine OEM parts to resolve complex faults on the first attendance.

Verified Technical Case Study

S-Band Radar Scanner Motor Overhaul at Fujairah Anchorage

Vessel: LPG Carrier
Location: Fujairah Anchorage Sector A
Equipment: Furuno FAR-2837S S-Band Radar (30 kW)

Reported Fault: Radar scanner stopped rotating; scanner motor drive fault alarm displayed on bridge unit.

Diagnosis: Drive motor carbon brush wear and seized pedestal gearbox bearing caused by water ingress through degraded pedestal seal.

Work Performed: Engineer boarded via launch boat. Removed antenna gearbox assembly, replaced heavy-duty bearing set, installed new water seal kit, replaced DC motor brushes, and renewed gear synthetic lubricant.

Testing & Verification: Continuous rotation test run at 24 and 42 RPM for 90 minutes. Heading line sync aligned to master gyro compass within 0.1 degree.

Result: Radar returned to full service; long-range target tracking confirmed on Fujairah traffic management fairway.

Radar Tuning, Receiver Sensitivity & Routine Maintenance

In addition to corrective breakdown repairs, Seanav Marine carries out preventative maintenance (PM) including local oscillator receiver tuning, automated Frequency Control (AFC) alignment, antenna scanner gearbox carbon brush inspection, synthetic lubricant replenishment, and interswitch unit (ISU) matrix testing. Defective interswitch units can prevent dual radar installations (X-Band and S-Band) from swapping display consoles during severe weather.

Gyro Interface & Heading Input Troubleshooting

A frequent radar deficiency during PSC inspections is the inability of the radar to acquire true motion or north-up presentation due to a lost gyro heading input ($HEHDT). Our engineers test synchro, stepper, and serial RS-422 heading interfaces, resolving line noise and optocoupler failures directly on bridge distribution boards.
