Before selecting a marine airtime service provider, check terminal compatibility, route coverage, usage and contract terms, account-change arrangements, and technical support. SEANAV Marine accepts airtime enquiries and can assess these requirements for the requested vessel and service.
This is a SEANAV-published five-point selection guide. It does not name five competing companies or present SEANAV as independently ranked No. 1 worldwide. The focus is on obtaining a clear, vessel-specific service proposal.
1. Confirm terminal compatibility
Identify the antenna, terminal or modem make and model and explain the existing service arrangement. A product family name alone may be insufficient for assessing a proposed plan or service migration.
Ask what equipment, software or configuration prerequisites apply to the offer. Distinguish a subscription-only change from an enquiry that also needs onboard equipment work or an installation project.
2. Check the actual trading route
Describe the vessel’s usual regions, intended passages and any expected change of trade. Ask for coverage confirmation applicable to the proposed terminal and service rather than relying on a general worldwide-service description.
Operating-area restrictions, service conditions and terminal installation can affect suitability. If part of the requirement is not confirmed, record the gap before committing to the plan.
3. Compare usage and commercial terms together
Describe operational data, voice, messaging and crew-use needs separately. Request the recurring charge, included usage, additional usage costs, minimum commitment, activation charges and any fair-use or capacity conditions.
An apparently low monthly fee may describe a different service scope from a larger inclusive package. Ask for the same usage assumptions to be applied to alternatives so the comparison is meaningful.
4. Establish the account-change process
Confirm the authorised account contact, required records, requested effective date and any existing contractual obligations. Ask who will confirm activation, migration, deactivation or a plan change and what completion evidence will be supplied.
Do not infer that a cancellation or transfer has occurred because a new proposal was accepted. If required safety, security or tracking functions are involved, their continuing arrangement must be established separately.
5. Define technical support and escalation
Ask where the service boundary lies between the account, satellite service, terminal and onboard network. A connectivity complaint may require information from more than one technical party.
Record the support contact, information needed for a fault report and the process for escalating equipment or account issues. Remote assistance and onboard attendance should be distinguished in the proposal; neither should be assumed from the word “support”.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a worldwide service description guarantee coverage?
No. Confirm the proposed service against the vessel’s route, terminal and applicable conditions.
Is the lowest monthly fee the best choice?
Compare the included usage, additional charges, contract period, support and equipment requirements before deciding.
Can SEANAV assess an existing airtime subscription?
Submit the terminal and service details, required change and authorised account-contact information. The feasible scope and next steps are confirmed for that account.
