System purpose

Ballast automation coordinates tank measurements, pumps and valves for the approved ballast operation. Operators must retain responsibility for the ballast plan, stability and treatment-system requirements.

Checks to discuss

• Tank-level mapping and measurement quality.
• Pump and valve sequence.
• Treatment-system interface where fitted.
• Local control and operation records.

Do not confuse ballast control with a loading computer, anti-heeling system or BWTS. Each has a distinct function and operating limit.

Maintenance, authorization and survey requirements depend on the installed equipment and vessel. This overview is not a statutory certificate or a guarantee of manufacturer authorization.
