Conning display
Conning displays, also known as conning stations or consoles, are navigation systems used on ships to provide essential information to the officer on watch (OOW) or navigator for safe and efficient vessel maneuvering. These displays typically consist of multiple screens or panels that present real-time data regarding the ship’s position, heading, speed, depth, and other navigational parameters. Conning displays integrate information from various onboard sensors and systems, such as GPS, radar, AIS, gyrocompass, and echo sounder, to provide a comprehensive situational awareness picture to the operator. They may also include features like route planning, collision avoidance assistance, and graphical representations of nearby vessels and navigational hazards. Conning displays play a crucial role in assisting navigators in making informed decisions during vessel navigation, docking, and maneuvering in confined or busy waterways.
