Description
TronTracker Package — Approved Fishing Buoy Tracking System
The TronTracker Package (Part Number: 106193) from Jotron is a fully approved, regulation-compliant fishing buoy tracking system designed to help commercial fishermen locate deployed surface gear with precision. Built around the proven AMRD-B 160.900 MHz frequency allocation and operating under CEPT ECC/DEC/(02)01, TronTracker delivers a reliable, low-interference solution for tracking buoys used with gillnets, longlines, Danish seine, and crab pots — replacing traditional AIS buoy marking with a legal, purpose-built alternative that is designed specifically for temporary surface marking.
System Overview & Engineering Architecture
The TronTracker ecosystem is engineered as a three-component architecture consisting of a vessel-mounted receiver, deployable transmitter units, and a dedicated charging station. Each element of the system is purpose-built to meet the demands of commercial fishing operations where reliability, low-temperature endurance, and ease of use are mission-critical.
The package configuration comprises:
- 1 × RA10 Receiver — the on-board receiving unit that decodes transmissions from deployed TA10 Trackers and feeds position data to the vessel’s chartplotter system
- 2 × TA10 Trackers with brackets — rugged, low-temperature-rated transmitters fitted to surface marker buoys
- 1 × BC10 Dual Charger — a dedicated dual-slot charging dock designed for fast, simple recharging of the TA10 Tracker rechargeable batteries
- Precise tracking for quick and easy gear retrieval — allowing crews to relocate deployed gear with confidence and reduce time spent searching in poor visibility or adverse weather
- A legal replacement for AIS buoys — operating under CEPT ECC/DEC/(02)01 on the designated AMRD-B 160.900 MHz band, the system is approved for temporary surface marking and does not interfere with navigation
- Reduces gear loss — by providing reliable positioning of surface markers, the risk of losing expensive gear due to drifting or breakage is significantly reduced
- Saves fuel and lowers carbon emissions — faster gear retrieval means reduced steaming time searching for buoys, delivering measurable fuel savings and supporting decarbonization initiatives
- Supports sustainable fishing — the system is designed to promote responsible resource management by reducing lost or abandoned gear (ghost gear)
- Compatible with major chartplotter systems — the RA10 Receiver integrates directly with established bridge electronics for immediate situational awareness
- Flexible purchase options — components are available individually to allow fleets to scale their tracking capability over time
- RED Certificate (Radio Equipment Directive compliance) — Certificate RED TronTracker
- Dangerous Goods documentation — PSI TronTracker TA10 Tracker (Valid from Jan. 2026) and UN 38.3 Test Summary Report TronTracker TA10 Tracker (covering lithium battery transport safety)
- Declaration of Conformity — Declaration of Conformity TronTracker
- Disposal documentation — Disposal instructions for the RA10 Receiver, BC10 Dual Charger, and TA10 Tracker
- Multilingual Quick Start and Installation Manuals — provided in English, Norwegian, Spanish, and French
- Battery management — regular charging cycles via the BC10 Dual Charger; inspection of TA10 rechargeable battery health and replacement where degraded
- Mechanical inspection — pre-deployment check of tracker brackets, buoy attachment integrity, and Receiver mounting security
- Documentation review — confirming valid Declaration of Conformity, RED certification, and UN 38.3 battery test summary are available on board for inspection
- Software updates — application of manufacturer-released firmware updates for the RA10 Receiver as published by Jotron
- TronTracker Brackets (5 units) — Part Number: 106346
- TronTracker BC10 Dual Charger — Part Number: 105916
- TronTracker RA10 Receiver — Part Number: 105919
- TronTracker TA10 Tracker with bracket — Part Number: 105650
This combination supports the immediate operational needs of small- to mid-scale fishing operations, while additional TA10 Trackers, RA10 Receivers, BC10 Chargers, and bracket packs can be procured separately to scale the system as required.
Core Features & Operational Advantages
The TronTracker Package delivers a focused set of operational benefits that directly address the daily challenges faced by commercial fishermen:
A particularly valuable feature is the RA10 Receiver’s ability to display tracking data from other transmitters operating on the same frequency — promoting inter-vessel collaboration, shared situational awareness, and broader sustainable fishing practices across fleets operating in the same waters.
Component Breakdown
TA10 Tracker (with bracket)
The TA10 Tracker is a compact, rugged transmitter designed for long-lasting, low-temperature performance. Each tracker is fitted to a surface marking buoy with its dedicated bracket and is powered by a rechargeable battery. The TA10 is suited to the harsh conditions of commercial fishing operations, including extended deployment in cold-water fisheries.
RA10 Receiver
The RA10 Receiver is the on-vessel component that receives TA10 transmissions and routes positional data to the vessel’s chart system. This integration enables crews to view their deployed gear positions directly on familiar bridge displays. The RA10 also supports reception of compatible transmitters from other manufacturers or operators on the same 160.900 MHz frequency.
BC10 Dual Charger
The BC10 Dual Charger is the dedicated charging station, allowing simultaneous charging of up to two TA10 Trackers. Engineered for simplicity and reliability, the BC10 supports the operational rhythm of busy fishing fleets where rapid turnaround of equipment is essential.
SOLAS, IMO, IEC & Regulatory Compliance
TronTracker is engineered to operate within the international regulatory framework governing short-range maritime tracking devices. The system operates on the AMRD-B (Automatic Maritime Radio Device – Band B) frequency of 160.900 MHz, allocated under CEPT ECC/DEC/(02)01 for fishery purposes and temporary surface marking.
The system is legal for temporary surface marking of fishing gear and is designed not to interfere with primary navigation systems — making it an approved, compliant alternative to traditional AIS-based buoy marking in jurisdictions where AMRD-B is the recognized frequency for this application.
The package is supplied with a full suite of regulatory and safety documentation, including:
This comprehensive documentation package supports flag-state inspections, port state control, classification society surveys, and SOLAS/IMO-related audits where applicable to fishing vessels operating under international conventions.
Onboard Maintenance & Inspection Standards
Routine maintenance of the TronTracker Package centers on battery management, mechanical integrity, and software/firmware updates. Best-practice onboard maintenance includes:
For commercial fleets operating across multiple jurisdictions — including those touching Jebel Ali Port, Port Rashid, Khalifa Port, and other regional hubs — maintaining a current and traceable compliance file is essential for uninterrupted operations.
Accessories and Spares
The TronTracker Package can be expanded or maintained through the following individual components and spares:
Additional dimensional drawings are available for each component (BC10 Dual Charger, RA10 Receiver, and TA10 Transmitter with bracket), supporting accurate installation planning and bridge retrofit design.
