YDK, formerly known as Yokogawa, introduces the CMZ900 Gyro Compass Series, a cutting-edge solution designed to enhance the precision and reliability of maritime navigation. With a range of models catering to diverse vessel needs, this series is poised to redefine navigation standards. All models are type-approved to comply with IMO standards resolution and JIS-F9602 Class A standards.

A gyro compass detects the true north by means of a fast-spinning rotor, which is suspended with no friction and is influenced by gravity and rotation of the Earth. A gyro compass consequently indicates a ship’s heading. CMZ900 series has been type approved in accordance with International Maritime Organization (IMO) standards, resolution A.424(XI) as well as JIS-F9602, class A standards.

Different Gyro Model in CMZ900 Series:

  • CMZ900-B2 Gyro Compass for small vessels (smooth gyro changes without lag when small vessel changes course)
  • CMZ900-S Gyro Compass (+ Control Box with built-in monitor)- suitable for all merchant vessels, with various types of signal outputs
  • CMZ900-D Dual Gyro Compass (+ Control Box + Dual AC Adaptor) – Highly reliable dual system,  switch-over controls, multiple signal outputs, & enhanced integration

MASTER COMPASS (MKM 026) runs on 24 VDC power supply. It is easily adopted to the power supply requirements, and all signal outputs can then be maintained during AC power interruption if 24 VDC is provided. Serial data output IEC 61162-1 or -2 (high-speed transmission) is selective, and contains the ship’s heading and rate of turn (ROT) information.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q1: What is the YDK (Yokogawa) CMZ900 Gyro Compass Series? A: The CMZ900 Gyro Compass Series is a lineup of gyro compass models designed by YDK (Yokogawa) to provide precise and reliable heading information for vessels.

Q2: How does a gyro compass work? A: A gyro compass detects true north by utilizing a fast-spinning rotor, suspended with no friction, influenced by gravity and the Earth’s rotation. This technology ensures accurate indication of a ship’s heading.

Q3: What standards does the CMZ900 Series comply with? A: All models in the CMZ900 Series are type-approved to comply with International Maritime Organization (IMO) standards, resolution A.424(XI), and JIS-F9602 Class A standards.

Q4: What are the key features of the CMZ900-B2 Gyro Compass? A: The CMZ900-B2 is designed for small vessels, offering smooth gyro changes without lag when the vessel changes course.

Q5: Which vessels are suitable for the CMZ900-S Gyro Compass? A: The CMZ900-S, equipped with a control box with a built-in monitor, is suitable for all merchant vessels, providing various types of signal outputs.

Q6: What is unique about the CMZ900-D Dual Gyro Compass? A: The CMZ900-D is a highly reliable dual system with switch-over controls, multiple signal outputs, and enhanced integration capabilities.

Q7: Are there additional instruments available for the CMZ900 Series? A: Yes, optional instruments such as repeater compasses and course recorders are available to enhance the signal outputs of the gyro compass.

Q8: What power supply does the MASTER COMPASS (MKM 026) use? A: The MASTER COMPASS runs on a 24 VDC power supply, easily adaptable to power supply requirements, ensuring all signal outputs can be maintained during AC power interruptions.

Q9: What features contribute to the CMZ900 Series’ system capability? A: The modular design saves space, allowing the Master Compass to be included in the autopilot steering unit. Serial data output for heading and rate of turn (ROT) is also available.

Q10: How does the CMZ900 Series enhance follow-up speed? A: The series features a unique anti-vibration system and a small, lightweight container, contributing to a faster follow-up speed in navigation.
